Amazon layoffs
Amazon is laying off 16,000 people for "reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy".
The problem is, I'm not sure companies that lay off employees to reduce layers are going to set up a better incentive structure to avoid this in the future. Every time I see the layers gone, they come back again because everyone is incentivised to create them (i.e., more pay, different responsibilities, and titles).
Can companies grow themselves and their people without going through this vicious cycle of artificial growth and then lay people off en masse?
